Prose poems, anyone?

What is a prose poem? A poem minus the convention of line breaks? A short story that’s very short and trends towards the lyric rather than the narrative? A palm-of-the-hand essay that explores the subject at hand sensually and imagistically? Admittedly, I don’t have ready answers, but I can offer up a few of my own examples from a recent edition of the online prose poetry journal The Mackinaw:
